Dr. Diana Demetrulias, Vice Provost and Associate Vice President for Assessment and Quality Assurance at California State University, Stanislaus, has been selected as one of the Outstanding Women of Stanislaus County for 2007.
A senior female administrator at CSU Stanislaus where she has served since 1983, Demetrulias is one of 14 women who will be honored by the Stanislaus County Commission for Women at an awards dinner on Saturday, March 17 at the Assyrian Cultural Center of Bet-Nahrain in Ceres.
"Dr. Diana Demetrulias has served by example and dedication as one of the outstanding leaders at California State University, Stanislaus," University President Hamid Shirvani said. "Her service to CSU Stanislaus and to the community has helped make our University a valuable contributor to the quality of life in Stanislaus County."
Demetrulias was selected for her commitment to promoting gender and cultural diversity and equity through articles and reviews, as well as for her admirable leadership at CSU Stanislaus. She has served for 15 years as Vice Provost after serving as Dean of the College of Education for 10 years and is an active scholar with some 60 publications to her credit. Demetrulias is founding president of the academic honor society chapter Phi Kappa Phi at CSU Stanislaus and is active at her church as a teacher and mentor in the dance program. She is a member of the American Association of University Women and Phi Delta Kappa National Honorary Society.
A graduate of Southern Illinois and Ball State universities, Demetrulias focused on sociology, English, secondary education, education administration, and educational psychology. She was instrumental in the re-accreditation process at CSU Stanislaus that culminated with a successful 10-year renewal in 1998 and is again leading the University's self-study team for the next re-accreditation cycle. The University's initial proposal for re-accreditation has been named exemplary by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and will be used as a training model for other institutions that are preparing for accreditation reviews.
