This Year, 3,130 Graduates and 306 Credential Recipients Will be Honored During Four Ceremonies.

Stanislaus State will celebrate the Class of 2022 during on-campus commencement ceremonies in the University Amphitheater Thursday, May 26, and Friday, May 27.

This year, 3,130 graduates and 306 credential recipients will be honored during four ceremonies. And for the first time since 2019, graduates will be able to walk across the stage as their name is announced, a tradition that returns after a three-year hiatus.

“We are looking forward to a magnificent two days encompassing four Commencement ceremonies celebrating our outstanding Class of 2022,” said Stanislaus State President Ellen Junn. “It is such a rewarding and momentous event for our students and their families.”

The festivities begin Thursday with the College of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences ceremony starting at 8 a.m. followed by the College of Business Administration ceremony at 4 p.m. On Friday, the University will honor graduates from the College of Science at 8 a.m. and those from the College of Education, Kinesiology and Social Work at 4 p.m.

Among this year’s graduates is Carol Barr, who at age 62 is graduating from the College of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences with a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts. Barr’s journey to earning her degree was no easy feat, and she is a living embodiment of the phrase “never give up.”

Barr faced and overcame three life-threatening incidents over the years including being hit by a drunk driver while walking in a crosswalk and a cancer diagnosis a year later. The third incident happened earlier this year, mere months before this week’s commencement, when Barr suffered a brain aneurysm. She underwent surgery and has since recovered.

On Thursday, Barr will join her daughter Virginia, an English teacher at Turlock High School, as a proud Stan State alumna.

“I plan on being living proof that nothing is impossible,” Carol Barr said. “There is life after catastrophic loss, after the age of 50 and even in the face of death. I want everyone to know that they can start again.

“Learning is for everyone: the disabled, the young, the old. It’s never too late.”

Stanislaus State’s commencement ceremonies will be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube and broadcast on local public Channel 2.

All commencement participants registered to attend in person must:
