Stanislaus State is one of only five colleges in the country to rank in the top 20 of the CollegeNET Social Mobility Index (SMI) for each of the report’s first four years. The 2017 rankings, which ranked Stan State at No. 19, were announced this week by the website.

“What an honor it is to be recognized for the fourth year in a row,” said Stan State Provost Kimberly Greer. “Stanislaus State has a strong commitment to student success in the classroom and beyond."

CollegeNET is a provider of web-based on-demand technologies for higher education. Colleges that emphasize and develop academic support programs to help low-income students obtain college degrees and good-paying jobs consistently rank high in the SMI.

“This year, we have been especially intentional about continuing to build an educational environment that supports first-generation college students,” Greer said. “At Stanislaus State, our exceptional faculty members, supported by dedicated staff and administrators, have placed an emphasis on ensuring quality advising, as well as opportunities for community engagement, service learning, student research and other high impact practices. These efforts have really put Stan State on the map in terms of providing a high quality and affordable education for our first-gen students.”

California’s public universities in both the California State University and University of California systems have dominated the SMI since its inception, and this year account for 13 of the top 20 spots. Stan State joins Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, and fellow CSU colleges Fresno State, CSU Long Beach and Cal Poly Pomona, as the only schools to make the list every year.
