Stanislaus State’s Housing and Residential Life no longer will host its annual Halloween Gala. While our campus has enjoyed providing this community event, it has grown to the extent that it no longer is feasible for Stan State’s Housing and Residential Life to provide the resources necessary for the event to remain successful.
In 2017, roughly 2,000 people attended the event, which provided the opportunity for young children — most 6-8 years old — to go door to door within on-campus student housing to do their trick-or-treating. In addition to candy gathering, games and other activities were provided for the youngsters to enjoy.
According to Jennifer Humphrey, Stan State’s director of housing and residential life, the event requires more than 120 volunteers and takes several weeks to plan and execute.
“We were extremely dependent on student volunteers for this event,” Humphrey said. “The time needed to plan the Halloween Gala and train the volunteers and employees for the event, as well as the event cost has had a significant impact on our department. Our aim is to focus resources in the areas that will have the greatest impact for our students, support a positive student experience and uphold the mission of the University.”
