Stan State has been selected to join the second national Student Success Equity Intensive (SSEI) cohort organized by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). The program, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is designed to close equity gaps for Black, Latinx, Indigenous and low-income students.

Participants were selected through a competitive application process. Stan State is the only California university chosen for the program.

“We are honored to be selected by the Gates Foundation and AASCU for this opportunity and proud to be a California State University campus participating in this initiative focused on closing all equity gaps,” said Stanislaus State President Ellen Junn. “We are deeply committed to ensuring our students feel valued and have access to a transformative quality education. Participation in this program will further enhance our efforts to provide an inclusive environment where all can flourish and succeed.”

The two-year cohort experience provides customized support so that institutions can make data-informed decisions grounded in students’ realities. Campus leaders learn practices to ensure that race and income are no longer predictors of success.

“For more than 50 years, AASCU has partnered with member institutions to deliver on America’s promise of access, affordability and educational opportunity. The Student Success Equity Intensive articulates an equity imperative to help everyone see their role in ensuring success for Black, Latinx, Indigenous and low-income students,” said AASCU President Mildred Garcia.

AASCU selected 18 additional universities nationwide representing 228,843 students (FTE), with an average Pell eligibility of 42%. The SSEI approach involves peer-to-peer learning across institutions via in-person and virtual Student Success Academies. Participants have access to online modules and webinars, and they hear from subject matter experts in data analytics, equity, student success, advising, institutional transformation and strategic and systems planning.

A proud member of the 23-campus California State University System, Stan State is committed to discovering and implementing high-impact practices that help close the equity gaps for our students. Stan State faculty, staff and students work daily as an institution and as a community to ensure that our curriculum, practices, language and behaviors create an inclusive environment in which every student can grow, flourish and feel respected.
