The California Faculty Association Stanislaus Chapter has agreed to a 50 percent split of all donations to the fund from Oct. 16 through Dec. 31 to the Sonoma State Fire Victims Fund. The Sonoma campus re-opened to students Oct. 18, nine days after fire swept through the area, halting classes. Many campus members lost their homes.
CFA created the Stan State fund to provide immediate financial assistance to Stan State students who encounter temporary financial hardships due to an emergency situation, said CFA President Steven Filling. This critical assistance aims to keep students in school, working in concert with the campus emergency food pantry.
“The Campus Cares initiative was founded on the principle of helping those who need it most,” Filling said, adding the extension of that care to Sonoma State was in that same spirit.
“The CFA’s compassion in recognizing this need is commendable,” said University President Ellen Junn. “Even more impressive is their caring and willingness to make a difference for all students in the California State University system. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Sonoma State community as it recovers from this devastating event.”
