Steadfast supporters of education John and June Rogers again have stepped forward to serve as fund drive chairs for the second year of the One Purpose campaign. Their leadership will motivate and support a cadre of volunteers from the campus and the community signing up to be a part of the campaign to benefit student scholarships.

“It’s all about helping students achieve the best education possible,” John Rogers said. “June and I are good examples of helping students who are motivated to succeed. This year, we look forward to sharing the story of the University and making sure that people in the Valley know just how important CSU Stanislaus is to our community.”

Teams of volunteers will share the message of One Purpose during the six-week fund drive, which kicks off Aug. 27. Through their efforts as University ambassadors, the campaign aims to raise $1 million for scholarships that will go directly to students.

“One Purpose is a catalyst for connecting people with our campus,” said Jacqueline Holt, director of annual giving at CSU Stanislaus, who is coordinating the campaign effort. “When someone volunteers for or gives to the annual campaign they have the opportunity to learn about the many wonderful activities that are going on here in our athletics, arts and academic programs. Additionally, they are empowered to be a part of something meaningful and enduring — providing scholarships for student success.”

One Purpose scholarships are awarded to students who excel academically and are making positive contributions to their programs. The announcement of scholarship awards began in May, and by the beginning of the fall semester more than 125 students from disciplines across campus will be recognized as One Purpose scholars.

“Students who have received One Purpose scholarships are feeling energized and motivated,” Holt said. “They recognize that the community is investing in them and they feel more connected to the region. Those students also become passionate about giving back to the community that has supported them. It’s a positive cycle with the potential to move our region forward.”

An educated workforce is a crucial component for a healthy economy, and with a large number of graduates staying and working in the area, CSU Stanislaus provides that important resource for the region. Attracting talented, motivated students, recognizing their achievements, and providing them with resources to complete their education are among the principal goals of One Purpose.

“I believe it is important to keep bright students in the Valley and to educate them so they can become productive businessmen and women,” John Rogers said. “Let’s not force them to go somewhere else for their education when we can keep them here by providing them with scholarships.”
