Steven K. Lee
Dr. Steven K. Lee, new Director of the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership that will debut at California State University, Stanislaus in fall 2008, has set his sights high for future success.

Previously Interim Dean and President of the Intercultural Institute of California in San Francisco with experience as both an academic administrator and faculty member, Lee joined the University in September as a member of the Advanced Studies in Higher Education faculty. He envisions the program as one that is focused on developing instructional leadership that facilitates solid student achievement levels at the P-12 and community college levels.

"My aspirations for the program are to develop a preeminent doctoral program of national and international distinction that draws upon the cultural, social, and intellectual resources of diverse communities to facilitate exemplary academic and professional competencies and confidence for educational and social leadership," Lee said.

A native of Korea who grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, Lee brings extensive academic and scholarly expertise to CSU Stanislaus. He served for three years as a Chair, Interim Associate Dean, and Professor with the Graduate School of Education at Portland State University in Oregon and as Director of the University Intern Program, Adult Education, and Bilingual Programs at CSU Dominguez Hills for six years. Lee taught and served as Director of Language Programs at UC San Diego from 1989-96 and had visiting professorships at San Diego State University, Alliant University, and Chapman University.

Lee's research on bilingual and multicultural education, international education, comparative linguistics, educational policy, and leadership studies has been extensively published. He is Chief Editor of The Journal of Current Research and Practices in Language Minority Education, Co-Director of the Japan-U.S. Teacher Education Consortium; and former President of the Asian American Faculty and Staff Association at CSU Dominguez Hills.

Seven CSU campuses launched Doctorate of Education degree programs for the first time in CSU history this fall after state legislation was enacted in 2005 that allowed them to join the University of California system and other four-year universities in the state to offer the degrees. CSU Stanislaus is one of five CSU campuses preparing to launch Ed.D. programs in fall 2008.
