Delta College students can earn a bachelor’s degree from Stanislaus State without ever leaving Stockton under an agreement announced today.

The partnership includes a guaranteed sequence of upper-division courses in liberal studies, psychology and business administration at the Stockton Center.  These courses will be offered in sequence so a transfer student can take a complete set of courses towards their degree within a two-year period at the Stockton Center.  The approach is a student-centered one, focused on programs most popular with transfer students. If students show interest in other programs the University can explore expanding the partnership.

The agreement gives students from Stockton and surrounding communities unprecedented access to public higher education close to home, with the potential to increase their earnings and improve their lives as a result.

“Stanislaus State is committed to ensuring Delta College students, and all students in San Joaquin County, are able to continue their pursuit of higher education,” said Stanislaus State President Ellen Junn. “This agreement will help make it as easy as possible for them to do so.”

“It’s really great news for our students,” said Delta College Superintendent and President Kathy Hart. “The fact that they can begin their journey at Delta College and then move on to a nearby California State University where they can complete their degree programs is really a huge advantage.”

Research shows that among students who earn an associate degree from a community college and then transfer to a four-year university,
71 percent go on to successfully complete a bachelor’s degree.

By starting at a community college, students also stand to save more than $10,000 in tuition and fees over the first two years.

The agreement between Delta and Stanislaus State takes effect in fall 2018. Some highlights:

  • After being accepted at Delta, students will be encouraged to declare an intent to transfer to Stanislaus State, which will insure their participation the Warriors on the Way (WOW) program.  They will also be encouraged to earn an associate degree for transfer, maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 and meet all Stanislaus State admission requirements.
  • The Stanislaus State WOW program will provide Delta students with opportunities to explore the CSU campuses, and additional mentoring and guidance while they complete their associate degrees for transfer (ADT).
  • Delta students with a GPA of at least 3.8 will be eligible for transfer scholarships or internship opportunities.
  • A student outreach counselor from Stanislaus State will work part-time on the Delta campus to help students outline their specific pathway.
  • Stanislaus State application fees will be waived.
