The College of the Arts’ Department of Theatre at California State University, Stanislaus is proud to present John Olive’s The Voice of the Prairie, under the direction of Eric Broadwater.

The Voice of the Prairie celebrates a time of itinerant radio when a broadcaster could be a one-man road-show radio station – before there were networks, sponsors and regulating agencies. Traveling from town to town, such an entrepreneur could discover banjo players and blues singers or, in the case of the lead character of Olive's play, a farmer named Davey Quinn, telling shaggy stories about his boyhood adventures.

According to the Los Angeles Times, The Voice of the Prairie “successfully captures Americana in amber, preserving its antique beauty with exquisite care and genuine affection.”

Join us on a journey of radio and trains at the turn of the 20th century in America! Warm with nostalgia, tender with memories of first love, and alive with the comedic spirit of self-determined adventure as big as the wide-open prairie.

The production runs Mar. 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, and 12. Performances begin at 8 p.m. in the Studio Theatre. There are also 2 p.m. matinees on Mar. 6 and 13.
