The program featuring Dr. Patrick Thaddeus Jackson, an Associate Professor of International Relations in the School of International Service at American University, is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the University's John Stuart Rogers Faculty Development Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
Jackson will talk about implications for distance learning as well as traditional face-to-face instruction posed by the ready availability of MP3 players and audio-editing software. He will discuss new possibilities created by this technology, ranging from enhanced instructor-provided content using podcasting lectures and presentations to assignments that require students to produce their own audio and video content. Podcasts are digital media files using audio and video programs that can be shared over the Web for playback on portable media players and personal computers.
Also Director of General Education at American University, Jackson serves as Managing Editor of the journal International Political Sociology. He has been the recipient of university awards three times for his innovative use of technology in the classroom and was American University's Honors Program Faculty Member of the Year for 2004-05.
Jackson's presentation will cap the Third Annual CSU Stanislaus Technology Fair, scheduled earlier in the day. At the Fair, he will join University faculty showcasing their instructional technology best practices and selected vendors who will display innovative technologies appropriate to classroom instruction.
