California State University, Stanislaus is offering returning military veterans who may be interested in pursuing higher education opportunities an information session with a bonus baseball game thrown into the mix on Saturday, April 18.
Recently discharged veterans and their families are invited to participate in the program, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Room 130 of the Mary Stuart Rogers Building. Following the session featuring an overview of CSU Stanislaus, a campus tour, information on how to apply for admission to the University, and a question and answer panel with veteran students and staff, participants can attend a University baseball game. The game between the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors and Northwest Nazarene College is free to veterans and their families, and complimentary hot dogs will be served.
Veterans are asked to RSVP for the information session at 1-800-300-7420. Additional information is available at the CSU Stanislaus Veterans Affairs Office, (209) 667-3081, or on the University Web site at http://www.csustan.edu/VeteransAffairs/newsevents.html.
The California State University, California Community Colleges, and University of California systems have partnered in the “Troops to College Program” in an effort to encourage returning veterans to consider earning degrees that can help them become part of the state’s future work force. As increasing numbers of exiting military veterans returned home and enrolled at CSU Stanislaus, a Veterans Club was reestablished two years ago.
Support services are being provided by both the University and the Veterans Administration to help qualifying students make the transition to civilian life as college students. Under provisions of a new GI Bill that will be effective August 1, veterans are eligible for funding that covers their college expenses, including a living stipend and funding for books and supplies.
