The University Art Gallery is happy to invite you to the reception for the fine art photography exhibition Unsettled by Dora Duan. The reception will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. with an artist talk at 6:30 p.m. followed by a question and answer period.

Dora Duan is a San Francisco Bay Area-based fine art photographer, she received an MFA from Academy of Art University in 2020, her passion for storytelling is evident in her work. With a strong emphasis on the emotional content, Duan creates photographs that explore identity and personal experience on a psychological level. Her work evokes inner connections with viewers through minimal visual elements and aesthetic aspects. Duan’s work has been selected in many domestic and international exhibitions and publications.

Duan describes her photographs:

"Memories are collective moments which may remain with us as shadows, intangible as they are. Inspired by a study of imperfection, I have been exploring how to narrate those uneasy and vulnerable moments in my earlier life as a way of returning to some episodes that I want to understand further. My intention is to convey the unremarkable yet memorable moments that have influenced how I feel and behave today. The process of creating this series of narrative portraits allows me to see my presence as other viewers might, and to understand the underlying aspects of myself. Digital capturing with archival pigment print and historical processes was used in this project."
