The University Art Gallery is thrilled to announce the exhibition Scrutiny by artist Haleh Niazmand, opening the 25th of August, and closing the 7th of October

Conceptual artist, critic, and curator, Haleh Niazmand has exhibited her art nationally and internationally in venues such as the San Diego Museum of Art and the Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe amongst others.

Scrutiny is a collection of three bodies of artwork addressing separate but related topics. The Crumbling “Isms” is a meditation on some of the political ideologies that while largely rejected, appear to be the creeping trends in global politics. Urban Artifacts are paintings of discarded and littered objects on the streets of Oakland, California, reflecting on the disparity caused by the growing housing and economic crisis in urban California. Finally, Everyday Heroes is a series of portrait drawings combined with a brief text extracted from interviews, honoring the struggles and triumphs of twelve individuals, eleven of whom are from Stanislaus and San Joaquin Counties. Together, these artworks aim to highlight the interconnections between, personal, social, and political.

A reception will be held on the 22nd of September at 6 pm.

The University Art Gallery is located inside the Theatre Building, with hours from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday with a late closing Thursday evenings at 9:00 pm. Admission is free and open to the public.

By participating in this event, you agree to adhere to the Stan State Campus Event Protocols.
