About the Artist
Jocobsmeyer's paintings and woodblock prints are about his own experiences with gaming. There is a ludic joy that comes from one’s immersion in a game world, which is especially true in video games. With these paintings and prints inspired by gameplay, artist John Jacobsmeyer hopes to elicit a particular uncanny wherein “old-school” Renaissance illusionism is disrupted by algorithmic glitches. These works offer a personal read of our culture's ongoing trend towards inhabiting a virtual reality.
