Stanislaus State’s Language Scape is a workshop designed to create interactive maps to explore Stanislaus State languages. With over 50% Hispanic students, Stanislaus State is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Moreover, Stanislaus State's student population includes Filipino, Indian, Hmong, and Assyrian, among others who also speak their mother tongues on Campus. Mapping the language scape of Stanislaus State will help to make visible our diverse population. In mapping the languages other than English (which serves as a lingua franca), spoken on campus we help to create a sense of belonging at Stanislaus State.

This workshop will use Geographic Information Systems to digitize data from an analog map used in 2019 (pre-pandemic) to create digital maps. In addition, a mobile application will be launched to gather data on campus from our smartphones and let other students on campus learn about it.

This will be an in-person workshop. Space is limited. For questions, email wccc@csustan.edu.
