Aléta Mascorro (she/her/hers) is a Xicana theatre artist, spiritual practitioner, and educator of the trans femme experience. She graduated from Stanislaus State with a B.A. in Theatre Arts & Ethnic Studies and attained her M.A. in Theatre Arts from San Diego State University. During her undergraduate education, Aléta was nominated and awarded Most Outstanding Student for the Ethnic Studies Program with the Dean’s Award of Excellence for co-initiating the Queer Trans People of Color Collective and serving as moderator and co-producer for the First Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance Candlelight Vigil, bringing awareness to transgender issues on and off campus. Aléta is also an active member of the local arts community as an actor, director, dramaturg, and playwright. Some of her favorite collaborations include directing Checkerboard Chicks by Allison Fradkin for Prospect Theater Project’s Second Annual One-Act Play Festival; stage managing Miss You Like Hell & Water by the Spoonful by Quiara Alegría Hudes at Playhouse Merced & Prospect Theater Project, both directed by Elena Gonzalez; and performing as the leading character Marlene in Top Girls by Caryl Churchill, directed by Artistic Director Laura Dickinson-Turner at Prospect Theater Project. In her free time, Aléta enjoys spending time with nature, visiting the sea, and connecting with her family and community. She is excited to return to her alma mater as faculty and teach Chicano/a/x-Latino/a/x Theatre
