Young Writers’ Workshop Begins 16th Year June 28
Students from the fifth through the eighth grade are eligible to register for the 16th annual Young Writers’ Workshop of the Great Valley Writing Project at California State University, Stanislaus, scheduled June 28 through July 9.
Participants will receive in-depth writing instruction, structured workshop time, and interact with visiting writers and journalists. Classes will be held on the Turlock campus from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Instructors Kaye Osborn and Casey Giffen are teacher consultants with the Writing Project. Osborn is a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing at Modesto Jr. College in Modesto, and Giffen teaches at Modesto’s Glick Middle School.
The $250 registration fee covers all class materials and activities.

The Great Valley Writing Project at CSU Stanislaus is an affiliate of the National Writing Project, based at UC Berkeley. The program’s network of K-16 educators works with teachers, students, and parents in Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties to improve the teaching of writing.
2010 Writing and Technology Workshops in Manteca
There are still openings available for participants in two sessions of 2010 Writing and Technology Workshops in Manteca. The two-week programs offer students the opportunity to develop writing and publishing skills under the guidance of faculty from the Great Valley Writing Project at CSU Stanislaus.
Participants will participate in multimedia writing projects, including publishing work on the program’s Web site.
The first sessions will be held for students from the third through the eighth grades June 21-July 1 at Walter Woodward Elementary School, 575 Tannehill Drive. The second session will be held for students from the fourth through the ninth grade July 5-16 at the Robert E. Goodwin Education Center, 1271 N. Main St.
