Yankee whalers from New England made the Azores a port of call where they would load supplies and add crew members. This contact taught Azoreans how to hunt for whales, but more importantly, led to Azoreans choosing New England and later California as a place in which to emigrate. The Center for Portuguese Studies at CSU Stanislaus is proud to host a traveling exhibit from the world-renowned New Bedford Whaling Museum that highlights this cultural interchange.
