This month’s recap of recognitions, accolades, awards, gifts and honors for the Stanislaus State campus community includes a transformative gift that will help create a culture of entrepreneurship on campus and throughout the region, recent student scholarship awards and the University earning another notable ranking:
- Stanislaus State received a $250,000 gift from the Porges Family Foundation to establish the Warrior Entrepreneurship Initiative, a multifaceted transformative program that will provide inspiration, mentorship and financial support to emerging entrepreneurs.
- Modesto firm Grimbleby Coleman has established a $10,000 scholarship fund at Stanislaus State. Five $2,000 scholarships will be awarded over the next five years to students pursuing degrees in business administration with a concentration in accounting. The company has a long history of partnering with the College of Business Administration and the University.
- In its “2020 Nursing School Rankings” report, Nursing Schools Almanac ranked Stan State’s School of Nursing No. 25 on its 75 Best Nursing Schools in California list and No. 52 of the 100 Best Nursing Schools in the West.
- Stan State Professor Kilolo Brodie was reappointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to serve on the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Her interest in the Council stems from her personal life and professional life, which Brodie said are inextricable.
- Jose (JC) Aguirre, Morgan Jacobs and Jon Able, were among 39 California State University students to earn the Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students. Each student was awarded a $10,000 scholarship for the 2020-21 academic year.
- Six Stanislaus State credential candidates with student teaching assignments in San Joaquin County are the first to receive scholarships from the University’s Ocella Riley Memorial Scholarship Fund. Jennifer Ramos, Ranae Handel Merrill, Deanne Mendoza, Kayla Wise, Amritpal Maan and Kayla Borders have each been awarded $1,250 to cover expenses while they train to be teachers.
- Stanislaus State student-athletes ended the fall 2020 semester by achieving high academic excellence. Despite the pandemic, the student-athletes were able to juggle academics and athletics finishing with an overall department grade point average of 3.275.
