A limited number of students who are nearing completion of their preparation to become teachers will be admitted to the California State University, Stanislaus Teacher Credential programs for the 2010 Spring semester.
Recognizing the importance of continuing to supply qualified teachers for the Central Valley, the CSU Chancellor's Office made an exception for CSU Stanislaus to open enrollment for teacher credential applicants. The admits are an exception to the California State University system’s decision earlier this year to close all Spring 2010 admissions in an effort to bring student enrollment in line with decreased state funding. The teacher credential programs are unique in that many students begin the program each year in the spring semester. “Since half of our credential program enrollment would have been affected, an exception was allowed so that Colleges of Education in the CSU could keep to their mission of turning out much needed teachers for the Central Valley,” CSU Stanislaus College of Education Dean Dr. Ruth Fassinger said. “Students who plan to enter the credential programs need to move very quickly to get their applications filed.”
Applications for openings in the Spring 2010 Multiple (Elementary) and Single Subject (Secondary) Credential Programs are being accepted through Friday, October 23. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have completed all of the prerequisite requirements for the program.
For more information, contact the Department of Teacher Education at (209) 667-3357, Single Subject Credential Program Coordinator Robin Hennings at (209) 664-6740, RHennings@csustan.edu, or Multiple Subject Credential Program Director Anne Weisenberg, (209) 667-3496, AWeisenberg@csustan.edu.
Students are required to submit two applications, one for the University’s Graduate School and the other for the individual programs. CSU Stanislaus Graduate School applications and information are online at www.csumentor.edu and credential information and applications are posted on the University Web site at www.csustan.edu/TeacherEd/.
