An upcoming Modesto Symphony Orchestra weekend of performances at the Gallo Center will feature significant involvement of Stan State faculty members, and the University community is eligible to purchase tickets at a discount.

The April 13-14 concerts, entitled “Nights in the Garden of Spain,” will include a song commissioned and written by Daniel R. Afonso, Jr., Stan State’s director of vocal and choral studies, as the inaugural piece to be performed by the MSO’s new youth chorus. In addition, the composition “Amor,” by Deborah Kavasch, Stan State’s coordinator of theory/composition, will be performed. Baritone Joseph Wiggett, a professor of voice at Stan State, and soprano Sandra Bengochea, a lecturer in voice at the University, will be singing the solos in Sean Ivory’s  “I Will Rise.”

The program, which features the MSO chorus, also includes youth choirs from throughout the county.  The Latin-flavored program features Venezuelan pianist Gabriel Martinez.

Stan State faculty and staff can receive a 25 percent discount off tickets by using the code MSO25 on the Gallo Center website. Students can purchase tickets for $12 by showing their student ID at the Gallo Center box office.
