TURLOCK, Calif. — April 4, 2013 — California State University (CSU), Stanislaus President (interim) Joseph Sheley announced today that Shirley M. Pok has been selected as vice president for advancement, effective April 29.

Pok served for more than 12 years as vice president of development at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, where she led a team of employees and volunteers that raised $22 million for critical services and facilities. The Turlock Chamber of Commerce recently honored Pok as Citizen of the Year, and the Yosemite Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals named her Outstanding Fundraiser of the Year in 2012. Pok previously worked at CSU Stanislaus as a director of development from 1998 to 2000.

“I am thrilled that Shirley Pok is rejoining us at CSU Stanislaus,” Sheley said. “She brings a deep understanding of the Stanislaus community and a history of excellent relationships in our region. Shirley will be a true asset in building and strengthening our partnerships with businesses, groups and individuals.”

“CSU Stanislaus attracted me to Turlock nearly 15 years ago, and I never lost my connection to the campus,” said Pok. “I am very excited to work with President Sheley, as I have already developed a profound respect for his strong involvement in the community.”

Pok’s fundraising career began at Fresno State University in 1982, where she spent 17 years as assistant to the executive director of the Bulldog Foundation. In this role, she helped develop the foundation from its early stages into the nation's largest in terms of athletic fund development by volunteers.

Pok earned a bachelor’s degree in management and organizational development from Fresno Pacific University in 1999.
