WHAT: A significant formal ceremony to invest Joseph F. Sheley as the 10th president of California State University (CSU), Stanislaus. The event is expected to draw close to 1,000 people and will feature a speech outlining the president’s long-term vision for the university.
WHEN: Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 — Academic Processional: 10:30 a.m. Ceremony: 11 a.m.
WHERE: Fitzpatrick Arena on the CSU Stanislaus main campus
WHY: An investiture is a formal academic ceremony held during or at the conclusion of a university president’s first year in office. Investitures have symbolized the pursuit of knowledge since the Middle Ages and today are used to welcome a new era and celebrate as a community.
DETAILS: CSU Chancellor Timothy White, members of the CSU Board of Trustees, various CSU presidents and other dignitaries, along with members of the public and the campus community, will attend to mark the occasion.
Since he was appointed president in May 2013 and during his time as interim president, Sheley has made a commitment to developing partnerships throughout the region. As a former provost and vice president for academic affairs at Sacramento State, his alma mater, Sheley has a long history with and great pride for the CSU system.
