DETAILS: Governor Brown has prepared a fiscal year 2011-12 budget that will reduce CSU funding by $500 million, following several years of already steep budget reductions to the university system.

In his May 2011 budget revision, Governor Brown warned that failure of temporary tax extensions would bring an additional $500 million cut to the CSU, for a total of $1 billion, a 36 percent year-to-year funding reduction.

A $1 billion cut could cause the CSU to enact unprecedented levels of tuition increases (up to 32 percent, on top of 10 percent already approved for Fall 2011), and close enrollment for 20,000 eligible students, among other measures.
