Panel to Focus on Options for Public Universities to Generate Savings and Revenue Amidst the Continued Economic Downturn and Reductions in State Support

California State University (CSU), Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani will lead a key panel discussion at the upcoming annual seminar for the Registry for College and University Presidents, scheduled on October 28 – 30, in Savannah, GA.

Dr. Shirvani and panel members will draw upon their experiences during recent years of state funding cuts to help identify best practices for managing the economic downturn. Rather than viewing reductions in government support, uncertain fundraising and tuition increases as anomalies, the panel approaches these dimensions as “the new normal” — economic realities that higher education must confront.

“Universities need to take a serious look at ways to cut costs while still serving students and providing a high quality education,” said CSU Stanislaus President Shirvani. “With the significant budget reductions of recent years, we have already cut costs and are already doing more with less. Universities must now also look for unique opportunities to generate new and different sources of revenue.”

Founded in 1992, the Registry for College and University Presidents is the premier interim leadership firm for higher education institutions.
