Paul Dolan, a wine company executive, author, and Chair of the California Wine Institute, will speak at California State University, Stanislaus on Thursday, April 19 about sustaining the future of agriculture.
"Sustainability in Agriculture: Leadership and its Responsibility for the Future" is the topic of his presentation scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Gemperle Lecture Hall (Room 167) in Demergasso-Bava Hall. Admission is free and open to the public, and parking is free in the University's Crowell Road parking lot.
A fourth generation winemaker who served as president of Fetzer Vineyards in Mendocino County and now a partner in Mendocino Wine Company on the Northern California Coast, Dolan strived to make a difference in how the winery grew grapes and how it did business. During his 27 years at Fetzer, he helped oversee the company's transition from a small family-owned winery to an employee-based organization selling wine all over the world. He guided Fetzer to recognition as the environmentally and socially conscious winery, committed to making the highest quality, best valued wines in the world.
Now a partner in the Mendocino Wine Company and a number of other vineyard and winery ventures, Dolan serves on the board of Business for Social Responsibility and is a founder of Wine Vision. Active with national-level business programs, he continues to advocate for sustainability and organic farming.
Dolan says in his book "True to Our Roots," that he sees the world of business in transition from a traditional to a sustainable approach and is committed to making a world that works for everyone. Business-approached sustainability can be the driver and leader that helps create that new world, he notes.
