Sebastian Paul Musco, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Gemini Industries, Inc. who has shared his remarkable business success with prestigious business, community, and charitable organizations, will receive an Honorary Degree of the Doctor of Humane Letters during a special ceremony at California State University, Stanislaus on Saturday, May 12 at 4 p.m. in Snider Hall.
CSU Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani will present the doctorate to Musco in recognition of his devotion to philanthropic endeavors and his development of groundbreaking technology in the precious metals industry. Guests at the presentation will include former Prime Minister of Yugoslavia Milan Panic; California State University Trustee George G. Gowgani; James L. Doti, President of Chapman University; and many other distinguished individuals.
"All of us at California State University, Stanislaus are delighted to award Mr. Musco with a well-deserved honorary doctorate," President Shirvani said. "This will be a distinctive event, and we are honored to host dignitaries and community leaders from all over the world at this ceremony."
Musco has been a leader in the precious metals industry for more than 50 years and the catalyst behind the groundbreaking achievements and success enjoyed by Gemini Industries, a company he founded and has led since 1973. After starting as a gold and silver refiner, the company was the first to develop a now major industrial process to economically recover platinum and palladium from spent auto catalysts for General Motors and American Cyanamid. Today, Gemini Industries has the largest plant facilities in the world, processing spent petroleum catalysts and recovering platinum group metals for every major oil company. Musco serves on the International Precious Metal Institute Board of Directors and was President in 1985-86.
While pioneering technological breakthroughs in the precious metals industry, Musco has also devoted himself to a long list of civic and philanthropic efforts at the national level and in Southern California where he and his wife, Marybelle Hessling Musco, reside in Newport Beach. He serves on the Chapman University Board of Trustees, Canyon Acres Children and Family Services, is Chairman of the Board of Opera Pacific in Santa Ana, Managing Director of the Los Angeles Opera Board of Directors, Vice President of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, National Vice President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and is a former member of the Marconi Foundation for Kids Board of Directors. Musco was named “Man of the Year†in 1998 for his philanthropic contributions to Orange County’s children with special needs.
