“We are extremely proud of Christina,” said Professor Ed Hernandez, adviser to the campus Human Resources Club. “Once again, one of our outstanding CSU Stanislaus students has been singled out to receive this prestigious award.”
Previous winners from CSU Stanislaus include Crystal Jack (2006-07) and Danielle Fletcher (2010-11 and 2011-12).
Alger, who works full time while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in human resource management, was previously named the 2012 CSU Stanislaus Management Student of the Year and won the Lyn Boone Memorial Award and Scholarship, which is awarded to the top HR student in Northern California.
The SHRM award is based primarily on merit, including academic performance and community service. Alger, who holds a 3.99 overall grade-point average and serves as vice president of the HR Club, organized a business clothing drive on campus and participates in an annual yard sale to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Alger believes much of the credit for the strong showing by CSU Stanislaus students over the years belongs to Hernandez.
“I think our students come out consistently on top because of Dr. Hernandez,” she said. “He sees the potential in students and does everything he can to involve us. He builds the students up so that they have the involvement and experience to excel.”
Alger, a junior, plans to continue her education through graduate studies in human resource management.
“I have a passion for training and development, and I am driven by a desire to build up others,” she said. “If I can help to make others successful, that would be true success for me.”
