Human Resource students Brittany Guzman and Karina Ayala were awarded Lyn Boone Memorial Scholarships of $4,000 each in April at the annual HR Symposium held in Santa Clara. First awarded in 1994, the merit-based scholarships recognize outstanding HR students who show a passion for the profession and excel in 10 characteristics of professionalism including intellectual ability, written and oral expression, emotional maturity and community contributions.

Guzman, a graduating senior, and Ayala, a junior, are co-presidents of Stan State's Human Resource Management Society Club, with Guzman in charge of internal activities and Ayala in charge of external activities.

The Boone Scholarship is among the largest and most sought-after in the nation, going only to HR students who perform at the top of their field of study, according to Business Administration Management Professor Edward Hernandez.

“It is definitely the scholarship to receive, and Brittany and Karina represent the best of HR students,” Hernandez said, noting that their awards are especially impressive because they competed against scores of students from larger schools.

This marks 13 consecutive years that Stanislaus State students have won Boone scholarships. It is also the second time that all of the scholarship funds designated for undergraduate students have gone to Stanislaus State students. “We've had an incredible run,” Hernandez said. “Our students have won every year since 2006. Stan State is consistently at the top for HR students, and our momentum has not stopped.”
