Dr. Gökçe Soydemir has joined California State University (CSU), Stanislaus as the inaugural Foster Farms Endowed Professor of Business Economics. Dr. Soydemir brings strong expertise and experience in business analysis and forecasting to the CSU Stanislaus College of Business Administration. In addition to his time in the classroom, Dr. Soydemir plans to use a series of new reports and initiatives that are designed to better inform Central Valley businesses and assist them in their decision making.

“I am extremely grateful to Foster Farms for making this professorship possible, and look forward to serving the Central Valley community with practical economic forecasts,” said CSU Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani.

Dr. Soydemir began teaching his first classes at CSU Stanislaus on August 22, 2011. Previously a tenured professor of finance at The University of Texas – Pan American, he published extensively on applied econometrics, regional economics, financial forecasting, market analysis and international finance.
“Gökçe is an outstanding scholar and high-caliber economic researcher,” said James Strong, CSU Stanislaus Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “I am looking forward to his upcoming contributions to businesses in our region.”

Dr. Soydemir plans to develop a semiannual business forecasting conference and report, along with periodic updates examining the San Joaquin Valley economy. Additional details will be available later this year.

Dr. Soydemir received his Ph.D. in Economics from Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, CA; an M. Phil. in International Finance from Glasgow University, Scotland, U.K.; and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. He has several years of central banking experience co-constructing and forecasting large and medium scale macro-econometric models. In addition, he has conducted independent policy research on monetary economics.
