Promise Scholars Team
The Promise Scholars program at CSU Stanislaus received an important boost in community awareness through its participation in the first-ever Community Brunch Serving YOUth. As a result, the public is more aware of the challenges facing emancipated foster youth and ways CSU Stanislaus is helping them to realize the goal of a college education.

“I’m amazed at the response from the community,” exclaimed program coordinator Wanda Bonnell. “Since the event, I have received mail, phone calls and offers of assistance almost every day from people asking how they can help.”

The Promise Scholars team earned $22,298 in prize monies, which will be used for scholarships and other support for former foster youth who are students at CSU Stanislaus. Seven current students participated in the event, and experienced first-hand the importance of pulling together and working as a team toward a common goal.

Five non-profit groups competed in the event, which drew 3,000 people to John Thurman Field on Modesto on Sunday, Sept. 9. The teams were judged on ticket sales, silent auction, in-kind donations, food presentation, service and entertainment.
