The California State University, Stanislaus College of Education and the Department of Teacher Education, in conjunction with the Graduate School, is conducting information sessions, free to the public, on the Master’s degree program in Curriculum and Instruction.

The sessions, scheduled for Wednesday, March 11; Monday, April 6; and Friday, May 1; are designed to help Valley residents cash in on the opportunity for affordable higher education at a time when the nation is looking for long-term solutions to its economic difficulties.

“Higher education is widely considered to be an important first step toward investing in the future, with the nation turning to its educators to pave the way for future generations,” said CSU Stanislaus President Dr. Hamid Shirvani. “CSU Stanislaus has historically been dedicated to producing such educational leaders in the Central Valley.”

“The economy is tough right now,” said Lisa Bernardo, Dean of Admissions at CSU Stanislaus. “We want to help Valley residents reach their goals and find success, and we know educated citizens are the first line of defense against a declining economy.”

Sessions are scheduled as follows:

    * Wednesday, March 11, 5 to 6 p.m. in Naraghi Hall of Science, Room 101

    * Monday, April 6, 5 to 6 p.m. in Naraghi Hall of Science, Room 101

    * Friday, May 1, 5 to 6 p.m. in Mary Stuart Rogers Building, Room 130

The M.A. in Education: Curriculum and Instruction offers concentrations in Elementary, Secondary, Reading, and Multilingual Education. The program is designed for current students in credential programs and for working teachers, using such techniques as night classes and the new hybrid online program (available in the Multilingual Education concentration) to work within the schedules of busy adult students.

CSU Stanislaus, as a state university, has long enjoyed a reputation for accessibility due to its ability to offer master’s degree programs at significantly lower fees than comparable regional schools.

“At CSU Stanislaus, we specialize in educating educators,” said Dr. Ramón Vega de Jesús, Assistant Professor of Education and Coordinator of the M.A. program in Curriculum and Instruction. “We’ve been doing it for years, and we’ve perfected the art of giving students the top-notch education they want and the real-world training they need, on a schedule that works for them, at a price they can afford. We’re really proud of that legacy and feel that now, more than ever, it’s something that needs to be promoted in our community.”
