David Evans, most recently a professor of geophysics and the interim director of international programs and global engagement at Sacramento State, has joined Stanislaus State as dean of the College of Science.

Evans earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, his master’s from the University of Kansas and his doctorate from Louisiana State University, all in geophysics. Evans has published research on earthquake seismology, hydrogeology and applied mathematics. He also served as chair of the Department of Geology at Sacramento State for nine years.

“As I visited other universities it became clear that I want to be at a university that provides life-changing upward mobility to its students,” Evans said. “I am very proud to be joining a science college in which the faculty and staff are so profoundly committed to their students.”

In making the announcement, Kimberly Greer, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, praised Mark Grobner for graciously serving as interim dean for the previous 18 months.
