CSU Stanislaus students Alexandra Vicknair and Joseph McCarty.
Two CSU Stanislaus master's students took home awards and seven others participated in the 27th Annual California State University Student Research Competition, held May 10 and 11 at Cal Poly Pomona.

Alexandra Vicknair became the first CSU Stanislaus history student to take first place in the Humanities and Letters category, graduate division. Her presentation was titled, "Mountains and Mindsets: The Ideologies Behind the Mineral King Controversy, 1965-1978." Vicknair's faculty mentor is Samuel Regalado.

Joseph McCarty took second place in the same division with his presentation, "Assessing Early Start: Collecting Data Necessary for Good Decision Making." McCarty, the first English student from CSU Stanislaus to win in the category, was mentored by John Wittman.

Undergraduate and graduate students from all 23 CSU campuses presented scholarly research and creative activity projects before a panel of judges and an audience during the competition. The presentations and written summaries were evaluated on clarity of purpose, methodology, interpretation of results, value of the research or creative activity, ability to articulate one's work, organization of the material, and ability to handle questions.

Other CSU Stanislaus students who participated are:
