California State University, Stanislaus Child Development students enrolled in Dr. Run Jin’s course, Child Development in Cultural Context, are learning about human developmental stages in an innovative and community-based way. Students enrolled in this Service Learning class are helping seniors share their stories and preserve their history and memories.
Seniors and students work together to create a personal history album that showcases the different stages and accomplishments of the seniors’ life. Seniors get the opportunity to share their experiences and traditions with a younger audience. Students learn about the struggles and rewards of an individual’s life journey. Students also learn about life in different at times, like when the nation struggled through the Great Depression or watched in awe as men first walked on the moon.
The students and seniors will both celebrate and present their personal history albums, as well as reflect on their experiences together, Thursday, May 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
For more information, please call Julie Fox, or Brett Forray at the Office of Service Learning, CSU Stanislaus at (209) 667-3311.
