On Thursday, April 7, California State University (CSU) Stanislaus Professor of Geology Horacio Ferriz will be demonstrating his innovative use of media in instruction. The presentation will take place in the South Dining Hall from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. and again from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

In this presentation, Prof. Ferriz will discuss a variety of exciting technologies that he uses to enhance student learning and ADA accessibility in his courses and to reach students in a 21st-century university environment. Regularly scheduled lecture capture (with captions), ad hoc Camtasia screencasts, and Skype-based office hours are only some of the tools Prof. Ferriz will demonstrate in terms of the intersections of technology, accessibility, and pedagogy.

For students—for example, the 24 students enrolled in Horacio Ferriz’s Hydrogeology course—this means opportunities to review the lecture material and read the captions, giving them more than one chance to understand the material. This is a pilot or proof of concept that may be more widely deployed on campus should it prove successful (and so far both Horacio and his students are very enthusiastic).

The presentation is sponsored by the CSU Stanislaus Office of Information Technology.
