Following this week's announcement that California State University, Stanislaus will receive $1.17 million in federal stimulus funds, President Dr. Hamid Shirvani said the one-time funds will help add classes in the 2010/11 academic year.

The funding is part of the $50.9 million allocation from the California State University system, which the Chancellor's office announced earlier this month. It is meant to enable state universities to add needed classes to the fall 2010 and spring 2011 schedules.

"This is really wonderful news. We are pleased the Chancellor allocated the rest of the federal stimulus now so we can continue our focus on adding classes," President Shirvani said. "We intend to use these funds specifically for classes with high demand and classes students need to graduate."

This is the second wave of the $76.5 million federal stimulus package the California State University system received last year.

The first allocation of federal stimulus funds - $575,000 - helped the University add 60 classes to the spring course schedule, responding to high demand.
