This year, the university will celebrate by hosting a March 4 Alumni Affairs wine tasting event, May 15 Spring Reunion, fall gala and much more.
“This is an exciting year for California State University, Stanislaus as we celebrate a landmark date in our history of higher education,” CSU Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani said. “We hope everyone, particularly our many alumni and supporters of this outstanding university, will join us in commemorating our first 50 years.”
The University started the series of celebrations in 2007 by commemorating the 1957 establishment of the 15th CSU campus. Turlock was selected as the college’s site in December 1959. It attained university status in 1986.
The University opened in 1960 with 15 faculty and less than 800 students. Since then, CSU Stanislaus has become a highly regarded institution, and awarded more than 40,000 students bachelor's and master's degrees. In recent years, it has grown to include six colleges.
CSU Stanislaus has seen its academic reputation grow as well. The Princeton Review ranked the University among the nation's best 371 colleges. The American Association of State Colleges and Universities placed CSU Stanislaus among the nation’s 12 most outstanding graduation and retention rates.
