TURLOCK, Calif. — April 18, 2013 — California State University (CSU), Stanislaus, has again been recognized by the Princeton Review as one of the most environmentally responsible colleges in the U.S. and Canada.
CSU Stanislaus is featured in "The Princeton Review's Guide to 322 Green Colleges," which was released Tuesday. The university has been included in all four annual editions of the guide, which first published in 2010. The Princeton Review, one of the nation's best known education services companies, publishes the free, downloadable report in collaboration with the Center for Green Schools and the U.S. Green Building Council.
At a time when students are increasingly taking environmental responsibility and sustainability into account when selecting a college, the guide provides profiles of the top green schools, with information on application, admission, financial aid and sustainability initiatives, plus "Green Facts" on the school's use of renewable energy sources, its recycling and conservation programs, the availability of environmental studies, and career guidance for green jobs.
Out of 806 colleges rated by the Princeton Review, only the top 322 were included in the report. CSU Stanislaus was recognized for its Green Campus Program for student sustainability initiatives, the Naraghi Hall of Science's LEED Silver rating, the photovoltaic solar panels and other energy efficiency renovations in the Science 1 Building, the career center's guidance on green jobs, and the research opportunities available through a new master's program in ecology and sustainability.
"Among 9,955 college applicants who participated in our 2013 'College Hopes & Worries Survey,' 62 percent said having information about a school's commitment to the environment would influence their decision to apply to or attend the school," said Robert Franek, senior vice president and publisher of the Princeton Review. "We recommend these schools to all students seeking colleges that practice and promote environmentally responsible choices."
