Next week, First Year Experience students at California State University, Stanislaus will hold a "Cold Weather Survival Drive" for low-income and homeless individuals and families in the Turlock community.
Dr. Stephanie Paterson, Associate Professor of English, in collaboration with the Office of Service Learning at CSU Stanislaus, and her Multidisciplinary Studies 1040 students will collect new and gently used items to help the low-income and homeless community face the coming winter conditions. A booth run by the students will be in the Quad to collect the "Cold Weather Survival" items and to provide information on poverty and homelessness in the Turlock community.
Under the direction of Dr. Paterson, the students will be on hand to answer questions and engage in discussion. Items donated to the drive will be distributed to the low-income and homeless community at the C.A.R.E.S. Resource Center, CSU Stanislaus' multi-service resource center located in downtown Turlock. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of University Partnerships, the Center utilizes California State University, Stanislaus faculty and students to assist in addressing the challenges of poverty and homelessness.
This fun and educational event will take place in the CSU Stanislaus Quad between the campus library and main dining hall on Monday, October 1; and Wednesday, October 3. The booth will be available on each of these days from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.
