A group of CSU Stanislaus computer science students and faculty plan to attend the 2011 Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference scheduled to take place in San Francisco April 3 – 5. During the conference, the juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to meet students and professionals in technology fields, from all over the world. A number of well-known professionals, including some who helped build the Bing search engine, a Google executive, and specialists in robotics and social networking, are scheduled to speak.

The students will be accompanied by Dr. Tom Carter (Interim Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and department chair of CS and Cognitive Studies), Dr. Melanie Martin (assistant professor of CS and math) and Dr. Megan Thomas (assistant professor, CS), who are organizing the trip. “We're hoping the conference opens up ideas about future career paths they might not have considered before, and that they bring those ideas back and share them with the rest of the students here,” said Dr. Thomas.
