The College of the Arts and Department of Art are pleased to announce a public screening of this collaborative video art piece entitled //Building Imagination at the 10th annual Modesto International Architecture Festival on Friday, Oct. 22.
About the film
//Building Imagination: Wealth
Who: Executive Directors/Faculty: Jessica Gomula, Christian Hali
Collaborating Artistic Producers/Students: Brittney Miller, Julie Strong, Alyssa Martinez
What: Modesto's problems are deep-rooted, but this ranking starkly contrasts with its reputation in the mid-20th century for being a progressive, fast-growing city with cutting-edge architecture and urban design.
The video art project is divided into four parts that take an expressive and experimental "art house" look at the city's livability issues. Each part is named for the words in the city's slogan "Water, Wealth, Contentment, Health." Friday's showing, however, will feature only one of those parts, Wealth.
//Building Imagination: Wealth examines the economic well being of Modesto through its residential architecture. It poetically juxtaposes architectural gems with examples of the city's livability issues: foreclosure rate, poverty, infrastructure inequalities and more.
