Sixteen graduating high school seniors have been selected as 2007-2008 recipients of the President's and Provost's Scholarships at California State University, Stanislaus.
Those awarded the largest individual scholarships at CSU Stanislaus include eight graduating high school seniors who have been named President's Scholars and another eight selected as Provost's Scholars. President's Scholarships are $12,500 per year for four years and the Provost Scholarships are $3,500 per year for four years.
Named as President's Scholars are Charlene Emerson of Livermore High School; Jeffery Fuller of Golden Valley High School (Merced); Christin Gowan of East Union High School (Manteca); Nichole Hurst of Modesto High School; Katherine Kennedy of Big Valley Christian High School (Modesto); Marina Long of Modesto High School; and Alyssa Toone of East Union High School (Manteca).
Provost Scholarship recipients are Lauren Balos of Beyer High School (Modesto); Jennifer Carely of Clear Lake High School; Jonathan Kamp of Pitman High School (Turlock); Chloe Minor of Pitman High School (Turlock); Laralyn Murphy of Modesto (home schooled); Eric Nystrom of Turlock High School; Frances Palmer of Modesto Christian High School; and Stephanie Wurz of Summerville High School (Twain Harte).
"These scholarships are aimed at bringing the Valley's brightest students to California State University, Stanislaus," CSU Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani said. "I am delighted to recognize and reward these hard-working students with our highest-level, merit-based scholarships."
The scholars, straight-A high school students, will be majoring in Physics, Mathematics, Political Science, Physical Education, Business, Biology, Liberal Arts, and Communications.
President's Scholar Jackson Leverone of Modesto High School is enthused about the opportunity to become one of the University's top scholars.
"CSU Stanislaus offers the comforts of home combined with the benefits and experiences of living away," Leverone said. "I am also hopeful that the Honors Program will help broaden my horizons further and allow me to discover my academic and professional calling. Plus, you can't beat the financial aid or that beautiful campus!"
