Our society continues to witness re-occurring acts of internalized oppression, internalized racism, internalized anti-nativism, and anti-black racism. What does it look like when BIPOC individuals express it in their daily lives? This workshop session will help define and explore the concept of "internalized oppression,” by using current and historical research and examples. Dr. Daniel Solorzano, professor, and Director of the Center for Critical Race Studies in Education at UCLA will present how internalized oppression manifests itself and learn ways to deconstruct it in order to be liberated.
"The oppressed, having internalized the image of the oppressor and adopted his guidelines, are fearful of freedom.” -Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed
