2 - 5 p.m. PST
This workshop is dedicated to the event connected to the Ethnic Studies Department’s 5th Annual Healing Masculinities through Collective Voices: Teatro Izcalli.
Macedonio Arteaga Jr.'s presentation actively encourages audience engagement, using healing as a means to foster connection and self-awareness. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the distinction between compassion and self-compassion, highlighting how kindness toward oneself is crucial for personal growth. The session is interactive, with participants taking moments to connect and share with each other, discussing several topics, including the power of a circle in order to create a supportive environment for everyone to share.
Mr. Arteaga Jr. also discusses trauma(what is it?), its impact, and practical steps for beginning a healing journey—such as learning to say no and cultivating self-compassion—empowering everyone to begin their journey toward inner peace and resilience. Despite the heavy topic of trauma, Macedonio’s humor and life journey help the audience stay engaged and lighten the mood. He encourages participants to explore the small steps they can take to start their mental health journey. One of the several goals is for participants to leave knowing they are not their trauma and that it is only a part of their journey on this planet.
