The University Art Gallery is happy to announce the fine art exhibition to structure / a structure- Howard Hersh from August 19 - October 11, 2024.
Howard Hersh is a native Californian and a third generation artist. He lives and works in San Francisco, with a studio at the decommissioned Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, now home to a 250-strong artist community. In 40 years of full-time studio practice, Hersh has had 75 solo exhibitions and participated in 250 group shows. His work is in the collection of museums, foundations, universities, corporate and private collections worldwide.
Hersh describes his exhibition:
"This exhibit highlights my work from the last ten years. Within the broad category of geometric abstraction, the exhibit will show the development from grid based two dimensional paintings to wall sculpture that embody structure as a noun and a verb. The work is executed with acrylic paint on shaped birch panels, some of which have exposed basswood framework."
Gallery hours are Monday - Friday from 12 - 4 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 12 - 9 p.m. A reception will take place September 19, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. The gallery is located in the Theatre Building on campus. Parking is available in Lot #2.
