Access Denied: Empowering immigrant families to navigate and disrupt systems of oppression

This presentation will highlight the stories of migrant families as they navigate systems (education, governmental, community, etc.) that are meant to support them but too often present both intentional and unintentional barriers that are oppressive in nature. These barriers range from linguistic barriers to structural barriers. Claudia Corchado of Cultiva La Salud and a panel of immigrant parent leaders will share their experiences with grass root organizing and how they have had success in disrupting the system and changing policy by informing and empowering immigrant families to be advocates for themselves.
