This Fall, Penumbra Online will be hosting a virtual book club to celebrate our upcoming fall edition. Our series theme will be the second part of our Love Series: “Love for Others”.

For our Fall Book Club pick, we chose the novel Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers. The novel celebrates many types of love: romantic love, love for friends, love for family, and self-love. The novel centers around Grace Porter, a recent Ph.D. graduate in astronomy. At the behest of her friends, she travels to Las Vegas for a wild weekend. At the end of the weekend, Grace finds herself with a wife who lives on the other side of the country. As she goes home to Portland, Grace struggles with familial issues, the struggles of being a Black Queer woman in academia, and despite her supportive group of friends, she finds herself drawn to her new wife Yuki in New York.

If you are interested in joining our Book Club and reading Honey Girl, follow the directions below. The first four to sign up for Book Club will receive a free copy of Morgan Rogers’s Honey Girl. The book club will meet on Saturday evenings once a month this Fall, with our first meeting being October 2nd at 6:00 pm. To sign up, use the google form provided or you can visit our website Clubs and Book Recommendations - PENUMBRA ONLINE.
