Join Stan State Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program (ASAP), the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) and the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center for an in-person community gathering and virtual tour of How Can You Forget Me: Filipino American Stories.
The program explores the overlooked history of Filipino communities in California from the 1910s through the 1970s, with special attention to south Stockton’s Little Manila. Through stories, artifacts and community perspectives, participants will learn how Filipino immigrants built families, labor unions and mutual aid societies while contributing to California’s agricultural industry.
The Smithsonian exhibition features more than 50 artifacts, including objects preserved in steamer trunks by the Legionarios del Trabajo and items loaned by the Filipino American community in Stockton. During the program, virtual tour guides and speakers will share insights into the exhibition and the people, places and experiences it represents.
This gathering offers an opportunity to connect with Filipino American history, learn more about Stockton’s Little Manila community and engage with local community members, elders and professionals.
The event will take place in person at Stan State’s Stockton Campus. The virtual tour and speaker program will be presented online during the gathering. All are welcome to attend.
